I've searched but have not found a solution.
I have Vista x86 installed on a desktop with a printer (Samsung ML-1210) attached and working. I am trying to configure my wife's laptop running XP Home, but when I try adding the printer from the Vista machine XP doesn't recognize ANY printer on Vista. Any ideas? Jeff |

Do you have printer sharing turned on in Vista (Control Panel / Network and Sharing Center)? Are you using OneCare (Settings / Firewall / Advanced / Sharing)? |

Hi Dave,
Yes to printer Sharring and no to OneCare (as far as I know) J "Dave Nuttall" wrote: I have Vista x86 installed on a desktop with a printer (Samsung ML-1210) attached and working. Yes to printer Sharring and no to OneCare (as far as I know) Maybe something to do with the Windows Firewall then (mine's turned off because of OneCare, so I'm not sure if it would get in the way)? |

Just checked the firewall settings in Vista and they exclude file/print
sharring. Odd, eh?! Jeff "Dave Nuttall" wrote: Yes to printer Sharring and no to OneCare (as far as I know) Maybe something to do with the Windows Firewall then (mine's turned off because of OneCare, so I'm not sure if it would get in the way)? |

Hi Jeff,
You say you have print sharing turned on in the Network and Sharing Center. Have you also shared the printers in the individual printer properties on VISTA? That is all I had to do and the printers automatically apeared on my XP computer. -- Paul "Jeff" wrote: Just checked the firewall settings in Vista and they exclude file/print sharring. Odd, eh?! WOW - finally got it.
Here is what I had to do: 1. Ensured sharing of print was active (had done previously) 2. Gave my Vista account a password (Is there a way to share printers without creating a Vista account with username/passwords?) 3. Use print manager to view printer info and used "deploy with group policy" to view address of printer - \\Vista\Samsung 4. Went into XP and added printer manually - could not browse and see it (not sure if NIS had something to do with it or not). 5. When printer was added it asked for username/password and then installed. Yikes - lots of work "PaulB" wrote: |
