Just recently I turned on my laptop that runs Windows Vista Home premium and
it won't identify the network. I haven't changed any of the settings on my
laptop and it just started doing this. It will connect to my wireless
network, but it says the Access is Local Only. There is a strong signal and
everything and my roommate that has the exact same computer has no problem
connecting and getting online.

Whenever I access the Network and Sharing Center and click on the red X to
find out what the problem is, a window pops up and says "There might be a
problem with one or more network adapters on this computer. It gives me 3
options for repair: Restart the DHCP client service. Plug a cable into the
network adapter "Local Area Connection". Automatically get new IP settings
for the network adapter "Wireless Network Connection" I have tried all three
of these and none of them work.

I would appreciate any suggestions to resolve this problem.

v6.

I'm not sure what you mean by firmware. I am definitely a novice with

Windows XP machine. If the issue is on a Vista computer, that is the
info that is needed. Paste it into a txt file in notepad and copy it
to a working machine.

I actually had the Same Issue; loosing my Home Network and it would say I had
Local Access Only. Well I just posted a New Thread letting people know what
I did to solve my Problem. I went out and bought a New Vista Certified
Router; and its been over a week now and I havent lost my Internet Home
Network once and I have increased speed now as well. I used to have to
Reboot to get my Home Network back; but now I have a Connection all the time;
after it wakes; no random disconnects or losses. It was well worth the money
to resolve the issue. It actually makes sense that with a New OS we would
have to upgrade some of our Hardware to get the most out of Vista.

if unbinding IPv6 doesn't solve your problem along with updating the
firmware, please check that you have the latest driver for the Dell

Hello Barb:
I have a problem and I really don't know if its a Windows problem or is a
problem with the dhcp server of my AP.
When I configure the AP to have web authentication I have problems to get
a valid IP address, and when I type ipconfig -all I notice that the IP that I
got is the autoconfiguration IP address, I'm using Windows Vista, but
sometime even in XP this feature fails,could you help me to figure out if the
error is with IP autoconfiguration in windows or in the AP dhcp server???
