I was trying to do a backup to my cds. By the time I got to disk #3, problems started :- 1.) I was asked to insert #2 back in 2. when I did that, it would say either " the disk cannot be written into", or " the disk is not formatted ", or " insert a blank disk if I don't want to add files to existing disk", and if I inserted a blank disk, it would tell me to label it disk #1. 3. I also had error message : 0x800704D3 or 0x8007045D I was stuck in that vicious cycle for almost 3 hrs., and the disk drive started to make loud noise. Frustration and confusion set in, I aborted the backup, changed it to backup to D: drive instead. Someone please enlighten me what was the problem, or what did I do wrong ? Thank you. -- davidjchuang |

David -- I gave up on using CD's or DVD's as a backup destination: too many
discs, takes too long, too many issues like the ones you are experiencing. I bought myself an external 160 GB USB drive that cost only $60 and I use it as my backup destination; one of my better purchasing decisions. Autobackup just runs automatically and troublefree for me now. Further -- about the D: drive you mentioned -- on my computer the D: drive is actually a partition of the main hard drive and was created by the computer manufacturer (HP) solely as a System Recovery drive in case of a disaster; it should not be used for anything else, and in any case is not big enough to be of practical use. So, do yourself a favor and get an external drive for your backups. "davidjchuang" wrote in message ... I was trying to do a backup to my cds. By the time I got to disk #3, problems started :- 1.) John, thank you for your reply. Yes, I knew an external drive is the best choice of backup . I'm just too cheap, since I don't really have any files that are vital. I just want to be sure that it is not my DVD E: drive being faulty. Other than this backup files debacle, I had no problem using the E drive. PS. In vista home premium, D drive is the one auto backup uses ( for your information only.) Thank you again. Hey, I'll be 65 come Sept. Glad to know some old ----- are still active with computers. -- davidjchuang |
