I have a local area network with three PCs on it. One of them is an XP and
the other two are Business Vista and a laptop with Premium Vista machines. I have set up shares on each machine. The problem is that the other machines cannot access the laptop with Premium Vista’s shares. The other two can access each other's and the laptop can access theirs. The Business Vista machine doesn't even show that the laptop is on the network. The XP machine shows it is their but when you try to access it says that access is denied. I've checked the security and I set it up the same way for the laptop's shares as I did those on the Business Vista machine. I have looked all around but have not found any how to documentation that would tell me if I left out a step. Can you help me solve this problem? -- Thank you, Tom |

Have a read of the above link re Vista File and Printer Sharing. Permissions/Share info is there as well. If using Norton, McAfee, Trend Micro I.S., make sure file and printer sharing is enabled in THEIR firewall. 1st thing to do is make sure that the Workgroup Name of ALL the computers is the SAME. In Vista Network and Sharing: Network Discovery: ON (So it can see the other computers) Network set to Private (Public is for hotspots, airports, etc) File Sharing: ON Public Folder Sharing: ON (Vista’s Public Folder is the same as XP’s Shared Docs) Password Protected: OFF (unless you want to set up identical usernames and passwords on ALL computers in your Network) If you have it ON, you will be asked for a username and password when you try to access a Vista computer from an XP computer. Also, run the XP’s Home Network File and Printer Sharing Wizard to include Vista in your “New” Network, even if you had an XP Network set up prior to adding a Vista computer to it. -- Mick Murphy - Qld - Australia "Tom" wrote: I have a local area network with three PCs on it. I checked all the things on your list. I found that I had already done them,
but I check to be sure there were right and found that I had put the wrong IP address into Norton. When I corrected the address it worked. Thank you very much for your help. -- Thank you, Tom "Mick Murphy" wrote: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../bb727037.aspx Have a read of the above link re Vista File and Printer Sharing.
