Is there any log generated when SP1 fails?
I did not get any error codes. After one reboot, during the next phase, the screen just said that the installation had failed and that it was undoing any changes. Event logs show nothing (that I can find or understand anyway). If a log were created, perhaps it would be fairly easy to correct the problem and have a successful install. Incidentally, the same six problems that I was unable to delete in Problem Reports and Solutions are now reoccurring every time I reboot the computer (although I have uninstalled the HP Photosmart software and drivers -- I am able to delete the new problem reports however). How does one go about viewing cbs.log? I get an "access denied" message

Thanks, that worked. Unfortunately I didn't see anything in the LOG that
clarified why the install failed. It didn't even say it DID fail. "Mark L. Ferguson" wrote in message ... Sorry, I'm out of ideas. I would escalate your issue to MS. They can read
that file. Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Support: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/w.../cc295800.aspx -- Was this helpful? Then click the Ratings button. Thank you for the idea; however, I think I know what the problem is now -- I
guess I did not read the Microsoft web page about known driver issues carefully enough -- I do have a Logitech webcam that uses a known problematic driver file -- I guess I will have to wait until Microsoft sorts out the issue with the driver file. I have a logitech webcam as well and I uninstalled it before I installed SP1
and then reinstalled (I had to update the software anyway). Works fine. -- Paul "Cal Bear '66" wrote: Thank you for the idea; however, I think I know what the problem is now -- I guess I did not read the Microsoft web page about known driver issues carefully enough -- I do have a Logitech webcam that uses a known problematic driver file -- I guess I will have to wait until Microsoft sorts out the issue with the driver file.
