Default XP will not boot from HDD

My XP Professional was working perfectly until I ran Norton Ghost to do a
backup. Now it will not boot from the HDD the POST runs up to just before DMA
and then it stops showing "no operating system. Inserting a emergency boot
floppy and restarting gets it going, but this is not really satisfactory.
System restore does not help as with the emergency floppy this does not like
things! Please help me out.

What does this have to do with the group you posted to, Vista?

Boot from the XP CD, and do a repair install.
Or, boot from the CD, and go into Recovery Console, and use commands to fix
MBR
You are using a bootable floppy with Ntdetect, Ntloader and boot.ini on it
that works to boot to your OS.
