Default Need Working Antivirus Solution

I have to use PC-cillan as AVG causes error on cold boot for me 'not able to
access database' this was with previous build also. I tried AVG Pro which I
have the license for - contacted Grisoft and we could't get it to work unless
I disabled UAC.

Install Pre-RC1 hoping to install AVG as I miss the right clcik scan file. I
decided to install the free version this time after Vista - worked perfectly
on re-boot but next day cold boot generated error again. I don't want to
disable UAC therefore I had no option but the minimal install of Trend -
works perfectly for me even though I am not keen on suites like this. The
computer I have Vista installed has AVG Pro on the XP hard drive which should
cause the error but it is the only conclusion I could come to.

I was alarmed by lack of right click scan files as I do this with any of my
AV's on my computers. I reported this to Trend they were looking into this to
add it at somestage - I am not sure if it is only the Beta version or if this
is standard with Trend (shock!) There is a way to manually scan a files
although it takes ages to get there through the scan options. I do this but
know anyone who doesn't regularly scan downloads/attachments wouldn't bother
as I find myself only doing this when I am about to install a download.

Avast slowed down my boot time and AVG had the error Trend installed and
worked with Beta2 + Pre-RC1 - don't have RC1 full yet although it looks like
back to Trend

With AVG or NOD I do this as soon as I download something.
I guess AVG will still create the error with RC1 for me and my only option
yet again is Trend (it disabled Windwos FW on install even when I had
selected minimal without their firewall)

Have you tried to right click a file and scan it ? I too was able to install
PC Cillin but the feature for manual scanning of files was not present or
available. So to me it was useless as an antivirus solution.

I just installed Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 14 beta without
any problems on Windows Vista Pre-RC1 build 5536. I only installed
Windows Live Messenger prior to installing the software.

I hope that helps.

It seems very odd that so many users are having issues yet others
apparrently
are not. In my case this was a clean install from the DVD with no other
software present.

I abandoned Trend Micro because the updates didn't work - Trend said it is a
problem with their server, not yet fixed (2 days ago). Norton said I must
wait for RC1 so I loaded AVG but that gives me boot crashed unless i disable
AVG ANF Firewall AND ATI. I am working with Grisoft to help them identify the
problem. Actaully there were 2 - they've been able to reproduce 1 in their
lab and should have it sorted very soon.

I have just installed RC1 (all went well thankfully) I am now trying to
decide on my AV for this. Post above shows my errors with AVG on cold boot
although I would prefer to install this over Trend as I don't like security
suites but Trend was the only one which worked for me last time.

I did have update issues reported and it was their server. My updates were
fine again. Dilemma for my AV atm as there seems to be problems with most of
them
I think my AVG unable to locate database error would happen again but after
booting I can open and run AVG - does this error matter if AVG updates after
boot or am I best ot install Trend again which didn't give me errors on the 2
previous builds?

Right now, if Trend have solved their update problem, you'd be better off
with them. However it is fair to say that Grisoft (AVG) are very approachable
and are working hard to solve the 2 problems I have reported. Incidentally
the 2nd problem may not be their fault at all.

Thank you for replying. I agree AVG are very helpful as they worked along
with me when I had the problems with Beta2 although unresolved on my side of
things.
When I installed with Pre RC1 everything was fine on rebooting it was a cold
boot which produced the error. I tried the Pro and free versions.

I best stay with Trend for RC1 hopefully updates will be fine after install.
Just wish it was just an AV even on mimimal install Trend disables Vista's
firewall during the install.

Trend fixed their server issues this past weekend. Not sure why it was not
working recently.

I have updated daily since I installed RC1 last Friday.
