Default System restore failure in Vist Home Premium

Question

I've tried restoring my HP laptop a few times with System Restore using
different checkpoints and the same error message comes up afterward.
Sytem Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files
and settings were not changed.

Details:

An unspecified error occurred during System Restore.

I've tried using a few different restore points but this just
comes up again afterward. I can't find anything addressing this problem; can
anyone help me?
Thanks.

Also, I've posted sever questions to different groups, & when I get an email
notice with a link to an answer, the link leads me to a blank page. ??

Try booting in Safe Mode, then run the system restore. My Dell has
never been able to successfully restore without booting to safe mode
first. In normal mode it always gets that exact same error message.

Bassplaya622,

I had the same problem with system restore. After spending several
hrs. in various forums, I remembered pc pitstop. I figured I would let
it scan my system and maybe I would get lucky.
well I got lucky. One of the findings *coincidently* was to tweak my
system restore storage area. It said I had too much space. So at my
system restore settings I found my "C" drive at maximum. I reduced it to
2gig and back in business. The down side to this adjustment is that all
the old backups are deleted. The up side is that the problem is *_not_* a
virus or your register. I feel the settings were changed when I
installed some shareware. Good luck.
