"Mike" wrote in message ... just remembered something else, i've had the update KB943411 on my list to install for quite some time now, but it has failed every time since i initially tried to install it, so i just hid it to install SP1, but that one fails with error code 8007371B. not sure if it's related, i guess it's a windows sidebar update, but maybe that's what's hanging up my SP1 install? cmd_output OS="XPsp2" E:\set /a c= 0x371B 14107 E:\net helpmsg %c% 14107 is not a valid Windows network message number. /cmd_output Does Vista give any different result for net helpmsg 14107 (in a cmd window)? Apparently it is another SXS related message: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/lib...(printer).aspx quote ERROR_SXS_TRANSACTION_CLOSURE_INCOMPLETE 14107 0x371B One or more required members of the transaction are not present. /quote So, as usual, I suggest that the code by itself is mostly meaningless. Search for some context in the files that the update creates or changes. Search for both the hex and decimal representations of the code. I then tried to install SP1 and got the same error message at 12%. the manual install of SP1 also stops with the same error message. thanks for the help so far, any other ideas we can try? "Leo Lie [MSFT]" wrote: Mike, That update requires special handling before it will be applicable (listed in the KB article). Steps 1-4 below are absolutely needed. Also make sure the architecture is correct (x86 vs x64). Thanks. To manually install and run CheckSUR, follow these steps: 1. Click Start , click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. 2. In the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue. 3. Type reg add HKLM\COMPONENTS /v StoreCorruptTimeStamp /t REG_SZ /d "0" /f, and then press ENTER. 4. Type reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Che ckSUR\, and then press ENTER. 5. Download and then install CheckSUR from the Microsoft Download Center. (See the "Update information on the Microsoft Download Center" section.) 6. As soon as the file has been successfully downloaded, double-click the file to install and run CheckSUR. -- Leo Lie Windows Update Client Microsoft "Mike" wrote in message ... i mentioned that i already tried to install the kb947821 manually and it says "update does not apply to this system". just tried again for the hell of it and it gave me the same result. Update: I have tried the "fixes" metioned in other 80073712 error problems, such as the pending.xml file(that doesnt seem to even exist in that folder), and i've reinstalled windows update, and i've already installed the update: KB947821, and if i try to install it again, it says something like "not applicable to this system." i've also tried another fix metioned elswhere to run the command "net stop wuauserv" and delete the files in software distribution folder, then run "net start wuauserv"...that did not work either. any more ideas?
