Default background processors running at 100%

brand new pc, installed vista ran fine for 2 days, now 2nd, 3rd and 4th
processor all running at 100% constantly (first at 98% idle). have no idea
what is causing this and more importantly, how to stop it. have eliminated
antivirus as after uninstalling, problem continued.

any ideas?
