Default XP - Vista network only works one way

I have a Windows XP Home computer and a Windows Vista Home Premium computer,
both connected to a router by Ethernet cables, and I am trying to get them
networked together. I have managed to set it up so that I can access
folders and files on the Vista computer from the XP computer, but not the
other way around. On the Vista computer I can see the shared folders of the
XP computer listed, but when I try to access them I get this message:

"\\X\SharedDocs is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if
you have access permissions. Not enough server storage is available to
process this command."

These are the steps I have already taken, using advice I have read on this
group and some web sites:
Set up user accounts with the same name and password on both computers.
Set up the same Workgroup names on both computers.
Run the Network Set-up Wizard on the XP computer and enabled file and folder
sharing on some folders.

I'd be most grateful if any networking expert could suggest what might be
wrong and what I can do to get the network working in both directions.
Thanks

Thank you for your excellent help Hans! It was the registry IRPStackSize
issue - now fixed. Thanks again.
