I've noticed recently that my dvd player will not recognize some discs,
including(gulp) my operating system reinstallation disc. I can think of only two things that could have caused this error. One is that I recently played around with new graphics card drivers for a computer game. The other is that a while back I tried a free registry cleaner on my computer to fix errors and improve performance. If either of these things was the cause, what can I do about it? I am running Vista home premium if that is of any importance. |

One is that I recently played around with new graphics card drivers for a computer game. This is exceedingly unlikely to have caused any issues with the basic functioning of a DVD drive, though it might adversely affect the quality of the videos played. The other is that a while back I tried a free registry cleaner on my computer to fix errors and improve performance. Granted that the use of registry cleaners can sometimes cause a myriad of problems, while never, ever doing anything to improve a computer's performance, it seems unlikely to have been the cause of what sounds to be primarily a hardware problem. If either of these things was the cause, what can I do about it? I am running Vista home premium if that is of any importance. First, have you tried cleaning the lens of the DVD drive? Cleaning kits can usually be found in most shops specializing in computers or video systems. If that doesn't help, replace the drive. -- Bruce Chambers Help us help you: http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/555375 They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. ~Benjamin Franklin Many people would rather die than think; in fact, most do. ~Bertrand Russell The philosopher has never killed any priests, whereas the priest has killed a great many philosophers. ~ Denis Diderot |
