Default Live OneCare

Hi,
I just installed Live OneCare Beta for Vista (5744). It has turned off
Defender, should I restart Defender or is this function taken over by
OneCare?

Doug,
Restart Defender; it's a bug;they know about it.
It's in WOC FAQ's

Doug;
Here Ya go,
Straight from the FAQ;
Why Is Windows Defender Off after I install 1.5 of WLOC?
Windows Live OneCare includes the functionality of Defender, so turns off
Defender upon install and at reboot if you enable it manually. We're hoping
to get more information on this soon.

Jeff,
I just went over to this forum

http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsO...04873&SiteID=2

and it basically says Defender is incorporated in OneCare and isn't needed,
we shall see! But I think I will probably restart Defender anyway.

Thanks Jeff,
I went there and saw that just a couple of minutes ago. What
I also found when looking at Security Settings that it also turns off the
Vista Firewall but that too is in OneCare. I wonder what the cost of this
program will be? Oh well it says good for 180 days.

Doug;
I think it's posted on their site; but as I have posted in the past;
(You may have not seen them though);
Basically; if you don't mind having a couple of independent apps; all that
stuff is available;for free.
But it is convenient; I must say.
And yes; 180 days IS nice.

Jeff
P.S. I'm giving it a try;for awhile at least.

Hmm, strange.
After I re-booted, defender turned itself on again.
Maybe I just got lucky on that one..

Any feedback on Onecare working with Visat. I received my invite just after
installing PC-cillan again!
I had a look and realise I have to uninstall this but would love to know if
OneCare can be configured to user settings and if resource usage is better or
worse running OC with Vista minus a third party AV.

Any feedback on Onecare working with Vista

pippin:

I am not impressed, and I prefer Perfect Disk (defragger) and avast
(anti-virus) as they provide more granular control.

Using it on Vista build 5728:

The "Checklist" items with my comments:
Remove unnecessary files:
Disabled by default, otherwise no settings
Defrag hard disk:
No settings
Scans all vols (on all hard disks) that Vista can see into
Scan for viruses & other unwanted s/w:
Can disable
Has an exclusions setting; can exclude a vol
Check for files needing backup:
Can disable
Check for needed security updates from MS:
no comments

Thank you for this feedback it has been very useful to help me make my mind
up. I also read there was a few slow down issues when browsing. I know I
prefer to configure things myself even regarding WU - I have let Vista do the
auto update routine but with any of my XP installs I go to WU myself for
updates.

I appreciate your help plus think OC would only be considered for my beta
install of Vista but at the moment I will leave this as I am not keen on a
total control element. Thank you
