I have an Outlook account on my old computer which ran Windows XP and i tried
to switch it over to my new computer which runs vista. My first problem is that none of my mail or address book downloaded. i can get over that. But I cant receive any mail. I can send it though. Ive always had little quirky problems with Outlook but now it has a Vista twist. Here is that message I get: Account: 'erica', Server: 'pop3.catalog.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR authorization first', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18 I have added Windows mail as an accepted program in Windows Firewall. I have unistalled Norton Virus. Ive removed the account twice and readded it. I have contacted support for Outlook, They say my anti virus program may need to be set up to accept Windows mail but I think Ive done that now by changing the Firewall. I read on here that maybe I should switch to a Windows live account but email address is a buisness account so can i just switch servers? Please Help! |

Go to Tools, Accounts, select the pop3.catalog.com account, Properties,
Servers, make sure that "Log on using Secure Password Authentication" is not selected. Someone else will need to help you with your Outlook issue. Windows Mail does not require any special Windows Firewall settings. Regarding your last question, switching to Windows Live Mail does not require you to change your email address. After you get your receiving problem squared away, download and install a more compatible antivirus like: AVG free edition: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff or Avast free edition: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html With either of those, during the install phase you must select custom install, and then deselect the email scanning option. -- Gary VanderMolen, MS-MVP (WLMail) "erica russell" erica wrote in message ... ... Address book and email: in a previous experience while setting up an Outlook account on a computer when i finally got the program running it downloaded all the messages that were stored and the address book in the account from the webhost. Outlook does not store addresses "in a webhost" - it stores them locally in your pst file. Similarly, the emails, unless you are using MAPI. You need to export both Contacts and messages to Outlook express on the old computer, then transfer the OE messages and Contacts to your new computer and then import them into Windows Mail. Copy ALL the mail files from OE (including the one called Folders.dbx) and paste them into a folder you have created on your new machine, to which you have read/write permissions. A folder within your Documents folder would seem to be the best place. Then in Windows Mail, do File-Import-Messages, highlight Microsoft Outlook Express, and click next. Make sure that "Import from an OE6 Store directory is checked, (that's why you need to copy the folders.dbx file, because that tells WM the folder is an OE message store) and click on OK. Browse to the folder you created. HTH |

Windows Mail doesn't do http accounts......you will need to log on to your web email and export the addressbook in a format that WM can import. |
