Default Cannot see or access certain network devices

Dell Inspiron running Vista Ultimate Vista SP1. connected wirelessly to
my DLink DIR 655 Router.

I can only sometimes see other Vista PCs on my home network but cannot
access the shared folders. I cannot see a Linkstation NAS at all. And
only get to it via it's IP address. None of the host names work.

Yes, sharing is enabled on all devices. Firewall is Live OneCare v2.
The other PCs are fine. I've even logged into another network (physical
location) and had the same problem so I'm pretty sure it's this PC.

Problem started after SP1 and OneCare 2.0 were upgraded, although I
have uninstalled OneCare with no success (and since reinstalled)

Here is an example of me pinging my NAS device

This is John at Dell headquarters.

Your network config is very convoluted. Are you using those tunnels for
anything?

I would recommend first deleting those, then trying again. If that
doesn't work, try whacking the rest of them and let Windows rediscover
and reconfigure them. Something in there very well could be corrupt, and
causing the problem. Just my two cents. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks but I'm not sure how to remove tunneling. It looks like I have to
disable IPv6 but I'm not sure of the registry editing instructions from
MSFT (bolded)

"Unlike Windows XP, IPv6 in Windows Vista cannot be uninstalled.
However, you can disable IPv6 in Windows Vista by doing one of the
following:
- In the Connections and Adapters folder, obtain properties on all of
your connections and adapters and clear the check box next to the
Internet Protocol version 6 (TCP/IPv6) component in the list under
-*This connection uses the following items*-. This method disables
IPv6 on your LAN interfaces and connections, but does not disable IPv6
on tunnel interfaces or the IPv6 loopback interface.
- *Add the following registry value (DWORD type) set to 0xFF:*

*HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servi ces\Tcpip6\Parameters\DisabledComponents*
This method disables IPv6 on all your LAN interfaces, connections,
and tunnel interfaces but does not disable the IPv6 loopback
interface. You must restart the computer for this registry value to
take effect."I think I added the parameter and value as above but after rebooting the
ipconfig shows the same tunnel entries

Hello bengel,

The problem is with DarryBell computer. The node type is Peer-Peer which is
running in p-node type and can cause problems with networking. If you
haven't already, please try following the methods here to fix the problem.

http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;903267

Next, make sure that Windows Live OneCare is set properly to allow file and
printer sharing. With OneCare it has a firewall can block file and printer
sharing unless you have enabled this option.
