Default SMTP server issue

please help me to understand this message and what it is i need to do

thank you

Microsoft Windows Version 6.0.6000.16386 (vista_rtm.061101_2205)

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '. Subject 'test',
Account: 'WORKGROUP', Server: 'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server
Response: '550 5.1.0 Authentication required', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): Yes,
Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC78

Default SMTP server issue

Tracy,

It sounds as though you need to go to TOOLS | ACCOUNTS | Your Email Account
| Servers Tab | click the "My server requires authentication" then Settings
and select "Use same settings as my incoming mail server".

I think that's all you need, based upon the statement "'550 5.1.0
Authentication required'" in the error message.

Good Luck!

Since you are using Comcast, check this page for the exact server settings
you need:

You have the SSL option enabled. I don't think Comcast uses
SSL, do disable it. If that does not fix the problem, change the
SMTP port from 25 to 587, and be sure to enable "My server
requires authentication."
