I am using vista home premium on intel E 4500 2.2 ghz core 2 duo . sometimes
on start- up my mouse(PS/2) does not work though mouse 's pointer appears on
the screen . However , on shutting down with the help of keyboard and after
reloading ,mouse starts working normally .

Hi, Satya. Before we go too high tech, let's start with some low tech.
Plug your mouse to a different USB port. If no more problem, you have a
deffective USB port.
( Try all USB ports you have). If problem persists, check your mouse by
using another mouse. If no more problem, you have a "bad" mouse. Sounds
like a joke, but many times we forgot the basics. Let's hear some good
news from you.

Default 'davidjchuang' on start up mouse's pointer

The op's mouse connection is PS2. Your advice is wrong, again.

Default on start up mouse's pointer appears but does not move on clicking

I have changed my mouse to microsoft's vista compatible mouse (USB ) and is
working perfectly . most probably my earlier mouse (PS/2) was not vista
compatible .

I'm glad your problem has been resolved. Perhaps my advice of changing
another mouse is not completely "wrong, again." Condemnation is
dangerous, it's subjected to rebuttal.
