Default cisco vpn client doesnt work on wireless connection

I have downloaded the cisco vpn client v 5.0.03.0390. I have a secondary
internet connection at work which is wireless. When my laptop saw this
connection it came up with a pop up that asked me if i wanted to
connect, i did then it asked me if this was a work, home or public
connection i labeled it as work. I have been testing on this work
wireless connection and ran the cisco VPN client and it was able to
connect.

Now i got home and the same wireless configuration pop up came on, i
setup my home wireless and it again asked me if it was a work, home or
public connection i choose home. Also, i have WEP running on my home
network. My cisco VPN client keeps coming back with the following error:
"Secure VPN connection terminated locally by the client. Reason 412: The
remote peer is no longer responding"

I have deleted the connection, removed WEP from my home router, turned
on and off my windows firewall which is the only one active to no avail.
I contact cisco and they state the connection is getting to the cisco
router, but my client is sending continuous connection attempts. I have
ran the log on the client and this is what came up:

"Cisco Systems VPN Client Version 5.0.03.0390

home(so far as i know) and the home one uses WEP, other than that they
both should have the same settings and config, in anycase let me know
what you figure out.

Also in regard to the link you have provided, i will answer the numbers
below, i have also searched various areas and am stumped as they all
state the same reason for error, but theres no reason i should get the
error from home and not on the work wireless network, as both are using
just belkin wireless routers

Reason 412: The remote peer is no longer responding.
Troubleshooting:

1. In many cases, this is due to loss of connectivity. Make sure you can
ping the remote peer, or check remote peer logs for why it is not
responding to the client.

the client is always connected

2.If you have your firewall turned on, there might be a rule that is
preventing the connection from being established properly. Disable your
firewall and try again.

i have disabled the firewall with the same result and also added the
vpn.exe to the firewall's exception list when on with no avail
3. Please make sure the group name is exactly as the same as the VPN
server group name.

yes it is the right group name, my cisco pix firewall at the remote
site shows traffic is reaching the remote vpn device

4. Try disabling any firewall software on your PC.

yup did that with no avail

5. Setting your MTU to 1300 or lower will prevent packets from being
fragmented and therefore increase performance. To do that ,go to the
StartAll ProgramsCisco Systems VPN ClientSet MTU.

currently it's set to 1300, but since 1 physical wireless location is
able to connect and the second is not do you think this would really be
the issue? not to mention i have a second laptop at home that i can
connect just fine

let me know if there's anything else needed and i really appreciate
your hlep

Default cisco vpn client doesnt work on wireless connection

Robert,

I wasnt sure where you were going with the disabling ipv6 but i did it
anyway and it didnt work, i also tried the following:

- used the work wireless profile and changed the wireless network to
the home one under that profile and it didnt wokr
- i disabled the firewall on my belkin wireless router
- i put my laptop's ip in the dmz
- i changed the MAC address of the wireless router to match mines, as
under my previous laptop that is something that i didenable and disabling options is not a problem, but the gotcha i got in
my head is how the hell is this working at the secondary wireless
connection we have at my work and not at my home? also, i have a built
in verizon wireless card on this laptop. i have used that adn tried
running the cisco VPN and it work, so i'm totally at a loss as to what
is causing my home wireless network to not allow me to connect via cisco
VPN to my remote location.

anything else you can think of? cause i'm totally out of idea's on how
i can make this wokr.

agiain to re-iterate the remote location is recieving my VPN traffic
but it seems for some reason or somehow my vpn client doesnt see that
and continuously sends connection packets as if it's not recieving a
response. BUT, on my second laptop i can vpn just fine(second laptop is
running XP and 4.7 version of the cisco vpn client)

thanks again. is there anyways i can get microsoft to take a look at
this without billing me? or anything u can think of.

It could be the home wireless router. Try to reset the router without any
security settings. can you establish the VPN?

options is not a problem, but the gotcha i got in
my head is how the hell is this working at the secondary wireless
connection we have at my work and not at my home? also, i have a built
in verizon wireless card on this laptop. i have used that adn tried
running the cisco VPN and it work, so i'm totally at a loss as to what
is causing my home wireless network to not allow me to connect via cisco
VPN to my remote location.

anything else you can think of? cause i'm totally out of idea's on how
i can make this wokr.

agiain to re-iterate the remote location is recieving my VPN traffic
but it seems for some reason or somehow my vpn client doesnt see that
and continuously sends connection packets as if it's not recieving a
response. BUT, on my second laptop i can vpn just fine(second laptop is
running XP and 4.7 version of the cisco vpn client)

thanks again. is there anyways i can get microsoft to take a look at
this without billing me? or anything u can think of.

Default Cisco VPN issue

I see that there are alot of posts for this issue, and we just ran into this issue. We were able to resolve it, so I wanted to publish the notes.

If you are running a Cisco VPN client that is 5.0.3.xxxx or higher, then our solution might help you with your issue.

With the rollout of 5.0.3.03xx (not sure exactly if it was 0340 or 0390), Cisco has enabled IPV6 on the Cisco VPN adapter. Whether or not your network adapter has this enabled or not, the Cisco VPN adapter will enable it. In our situation, it affected DNS. Our DNS servers were appearing as IPV6 addresses, when looking at the IPCONFIG /ALL under the VPN adapter. Our Cisco ASA and Cisco Routers are not IPV6 enabled.

To resolve this, we went into network, right clicked on Cisco VPN adapter, went to properties, and unchecked the IPV6 box. Clicked okay to get all the way out, and retried the VPN connection. Our DNS servers now appear as IPV4 and DNS resolution has been restored.

I hope this helps anyone still looking for a resolution to this issue.
