My KX-P1123 does not print in response to the "Print" command from Vista
Home Basic. It worked well when connected to Win98. I don't think the
printer is at fault because it does print in response to inputs from its
Control Table.
I am using the correct printer cable . . . "USB to Centronix 36
parallel printer. Vista's Control Panel/Printers shows the KX-P1123 is
installed. The Panasonic website tells me that the printer's driver (*1
INBOX) is installed and no other drivers are needed.
Following the instructions that came with the cable, I made the
KX-P1123 the default printer, right-clicked it and selected
"Properties". Then clicked "Ports" and selected "USB001:Virtual Printer
Port for USB". Clicking "Print Test Page" changes printer status from
"Ready" to "Error".
If I connect my Epson inkjet to the PC, it works well, so the PC
does not seem to be the problem.
I evidently did something wrong, or left something undone. I hope
someone can tell me what is wrong. I thank one and all for any and all
help . . . I do need it.

Is there more than one USB00? port?

Are you using the USB to Parallel converter cable when printing to the
Epson?

So the printer will print output from "Control Table" but will fail when
submitting a test page, correct?

Yes, there are two USB00 ports.
No, The USB to Parallel cable is only for the Panasonic, Epson printer
has its own cable.
The printer works fine on inputs from the Control Table, but not from

And the USB converter cable worked fine on Win 98?

Did you change the Port to the other USB00?

Win98 did not have USB ports. The printer was connected with a serial
(?) to parallel connector.

In the ports tab there was just one USB00 that was assigned to
printers, and that was assigned to both printers, the Panasonic and the
Epson. I clicked on all the ports on that tab, and there was only one
that I could use. That was the USB001. The USB002 did not work.

Most likely the printer will not work with the USB to Parallel converter
cable or you will need to try a different converter cable for the printer.

Contact Panasonic and ask if they recommend a specific cable for your
printer.

best.
I just had a thought . . . I have a scanner connected to a USB port.
The scanner does not have a separate connector for power. It gets its
power from the USB connector. Do you think that might be taking power
that the printer needs?

If you have USB hub that does not have power that could definitely be an
issue, but pretty easy to determine by unplugging the scanner no matter
which port it's connected.

The best luck I have had with USB converter cables is the Belkin F5U002. I
have not tried any new ones in a while.

Check Device Manager and verify the USB cable chip is recognized by the
system.

Sorry to say, disconnecting the scanner did not do the trick. I'll have
to go back to your previous suggestion that I contact Panasonic and ask
if they recommend a specific cable for my printer. I'll also check
Device Manager to see if it recognizes the USB cable chip. I'll also
take a look at Belkin F5U002.

I contacted Panasonic as you suggested. I could not direct my question
to "Dot-Matrix" printers. They could not help me, except to direct me to
another email address. That in turn brought me exactly the same message
as the first address. They also gave me a telephone number to call,
which is useless to me because I am deaf. I tried their second email
address again and saw that the page could not be displayed. So, I got no
help from Panasonic.

In regard to checking Device Manager to see if the USB cable chip is
recognized, I really don't know what I'm supposed to be looking for. I'm
told, "This device is working properly" for everything I clicked on,
including the five USB icons at the end of the list, including the one
for "USB Printing Support".

You have done so much so far and I thank you. Do you have any other
suggestions?
