Default x86 vs x64 performance

I have:
Asus A8N-SLI
Athlon x2 x64 3800+
2GB RAM
NVidia GeForce 6600GT
300GB SATA drive

The performance of x86 RC1 is fine. I'd rate it close to WinXP performance.

Today I installed the RC1 of x64, and overall it seems "snappier" than the
x86 version. Is this to be expected?

Yes. a 64 bit OS, running 64 bit software will 9 out of 10 times run snappier
than its 32 bit version. I don't know the exact reason, but its in the coding
(as is everything else) lol ...

Only problem with 64 bit is driver issues (not having ones available) and
some apps wont function properly even in a 32 bit compatibility mode...

Vista will ship with both 32 and 64 bit on the same DVD luckily so those of
us with 64 bit processors can test both out. By release hopefully most of the
64 bit driver issues will be resolved as manuf develop proper drivers (any
unsigned drivers will not install in x64 which could be a big issue with
older hardware)

Beta yes, Actual release? No.

Reason : Beta OS's were huge due to debug code and not being fully optimized
yet. Final versions will be smaller (32 bit Beta 2 was like 4 gigs, Pre RC1
was only 2.4)
