Default WEP key incorrect, even it's the good one.
Hi.
I have a Motorola router working properly with two Vista-based laptops. Now
I have this one, also with Vista that I cannot set an Internet connection.
Vista shows the wireless connections available (mine and the one next to my
house), but at the time when I need to set the key and try to connect, it
shows it's an invalid key and I must contact the connection owner.
I also tried "manually connect", but in this case it never prompts me to set
the key, it hangs forever trying to connect.

I only know the owner of this lap installed a new antivirus (avast) and
since then everything goes down.
I unistalled it and also disabled the firewall and nothing works.
I also try the Windows wireless set help and its key (usb stuff).

What else could I try?

I know what key do I need to write. The other Vista laps use them and I
generate them every month. (the keys)

first, WEP is not safe. You should use WPA2 or at least WPA. If the
Motorola router does not support WPA/2, look for a firmware upgrade.
If no upgrade is available, consider replacing it. Also, some
routers just are not compatible with Vista.

On the laptop you are having trouble with, post the text output of
ipconfig /all - also try unbinding IPv6

I deactivate security in my router and now the laptop can connect, but with
no Internet access. It stays a while in "Identifying", then changes to
"Multiple networks" and quickly changes to "Unidentified network"
That's the best I can get. I tried also unchecking IPv6 and it was worst,
the lap didn't recognize anything.

1. unbind IPv6 as per the instruction link I provided
2. make sure you have change the name of the SSID on the wireless to
something unique but not personally identifiable (don't use Linksys,
default, etc. or whatever the router shipped with)
3. disabling security puts you at huge risk. You need to use at
least WPA, preferably WPA2.
