Use Avira antivir or avast,
AVG free doesn't include rootkit protection and i have found rootkits very
common nd sometimes harder to fix than other malware.

either way paying for protection is over rated

Avira is *not* what it once was or should be:

Avira AntiVir Personal 9.0 review

" Avira AntiVir Personal is easy to use, but we were disappointed by its
poor web-threat detection and unreliable automatic updates. "
