New computer/Vista. Wireless connection says WEP - Public.....what I'm not
sure is if this is the same as on my laptop that says - Secure network enabled? Do I have to set a security key -- or is the one that came up when I installed it sufficient? Not sure how to proceed with this computer to insure my connection is secure. Thanks! -- oakridge |

"WEP" and "Secure network enabled" are the same thing. They mean that your router uses WEP encryption, and that only people who know the security key that you defined can connect wirelessly. "Public" means that Vista thinks that the wireless network is available to the general public. That's the right setting for a wireless network at a public location like a hotel or coffee shop, but probably not for a home wireless network. If you're connecting to your home network and want to share files and printers with other computers, change the network type to Private. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see.
