Default Vista Complete PC Backup

I try to do a backup and after selecting the drive I want it backed up to and
it starts, almost immediately I get the following:

The backup failed.

Failure in a Volume Shadow Copy Service operation. (0x807800A1)

Additional Information:
The writer experienced a non-transient error. If the backup process is
retried, the error is likely to reoccur. (0x800423F4)

I'm running Vista Ultimate 64 and the drive I'm trying to back up to is just
a secondary SATA drive.

Default Vista Complete PC Backup

Josh, I have had little success with the Complete PC Backup feature. In the
meantime, I cannot say enough good things about Acronis True Image Home 11.
It retails for about $36 at NewEgg.com. It can do everything the Vista
backup software is supposed to do and lots more.

Acronis:

NewEgg:

I haven't given up on the Vista backup routine. I tried it again last night
and failed twice. I've posted about it in the vista.general group, hoping to
get a reply to the specific error that I get, which is below.

Hi Guys.
Vista is certainly full of tricks as I can do a full backup with no
problems at all apart from the fact it insists on backing up my XP as
well .........I have dual boot.......and I can’t stop it doing this.
As for Acronis I would much rather use this as I have used it for years
but it won’t work on my Vista Ultimate as I just get a boot error if I
reinstall an image.

forester:

If you use Acronis True Image Home version 10 bootable disc, it should work. Believe it or not, version 11's boot disk has issues with many chipsets. Their tech support sent me a link to a version 10 boot image. It works just fine. Have you tried version 10?

By the way, I tested Ghost 12 and was NOT impressed at all, as it bombed during my Vista tests, in some scenarios. (One such scenario was when I tried to restore from an existing image, immediately following an aborted Vista clean install. Ghost simply stalled and would not boot the machine.)

Hi Donny.
I will give the old 10 a try as I prefer Acronis.

I am having this problem now. I've already invested in Genie Backup Pro
(which is currently have its own set of problems ... I am cursed) so I would
like to get the Windows Vista Backup functionality working. Does anyone have
a solutution other than "forget Vista and go bu ya third-party solution?"

WHAT problem????

You are replying to an OLD post and you are using a web-based, quasi
forum that keeps old messages - messages that it scrounges from
Microsoft servers so that it looks busier than it really is.

All those people who show the number of posts equals "n/a"... we don't
use that quasi forum, so we don't keep old posts for reference.

Describe your problem in detail.
