Is there a way to access defrag.exe in Vista RC1? I'm an advanced user and
would prefer to use the full graphical defragment utility, not the limited one that pops up when you click on drive properties, then defragment. It appears they have made it simpler, but it also doesn't display nearly as much information. As I understand there are two ways to access defrag.exe, through the command prompt and from the System32 folder. I figured out how to access it through the command prompt (using an administrator command prompt) but that only gives me a text version. When I click the file in System32 it tries to do something (command prompt window displays for a few milliseconds) but then nothing happens (this is the same as "run" "defrag.exe"). Thanks for the help. -- Dave |

Id download a demo of O&O Defrag and run it right after that Microsoft
defrag, you might be surprised what Microsoft Defrag calls a complete defrag.... see my post elsewhere in this group for more details... Not an answer here, but as a suggestion to microsoft - show more information!
The "dumbed-up" version does not let the user know how long until the defrag process is finished. After two hours on a 7200 rpm 60 gb drive that did not need to be defragged, I gave up. Hey Microsoft, good work on the 5600/5728, but lets add the "more information" tab on the defragmentation program. -- John PC: (XPS Gen 1) laptop Mem 1 gb processor P4 3.4 Video ATI 9800 256 MB Vista RC1 build 5600/5728 dual Base score 4.3 "leetudave" wrote: Is there a way to access defrag.exe in Vista RC1?
