Hi All,
I have Vista RC1 installed. When I try to install any application (like the HP essentials for printer & scanner), even when I use the compatibility wizard, the install is detecting the Operating System as Windows XP 64 bit and complaining that it can not be installed on this system. Similarly when I install MAfee Security Products or InCD... it gives an error when starting the application or on OS startup! Any one with similar issues? _Vinod |

I went to try to reinstall my Nero 6.x Enterprise edition and was told at
installer launch that there is known compatability issues with this program. I installed anyways, and have a nice stack of DVD+R coasters it made, however DVD+RW burns still work properly. My burner is a Ricoh 5125A, running in DMA mode as Nero requests. "Vinod Potty" wrote: Hi All, I have Vista RC1 installed. Long story short, the closer a piece of software is to interacting with how the system works (as opposed to just sitting on top of the system and talking to the user), the more chance that it will either just not work on a new operating system, or will cause reliability issues after installation. InCD and McAfee security both want to change the way the system works, and hence are likely to cause problems under the above 'rule'. I'm a little surprised at your printer issues (my Vista install setup my HP all-in-one unit without the need for the HP disk) but again, knowing HP, they've never been one to quietly install a few applications quietly in the corner if they can install two DVDs worth of rubbish that takes over your entire computer, so it's not a shock to see their disk get rejected either. One thing - you mention your system is being identified as 64 bit XP - are you running 64-bit Vista? If so, you need to have 64-bit versions of any system type software and drivers that you want to run on the system, and this is an issue with going from a 32bit system to a 64 bit system just as much as it's a issue with going from XP to Vista. -- -- Robert Moir Microsoft MVP www.robertmoir.com |
