Default Windows backup

Hello
I use Windows Backup weekly to back up music, pictures, video,
documents, email, etc. It runs automaticaly and I pretty much ignore it.
However, I just noticed that the total used space on my external drive is 56
gig and the used space on my C deive is only about 45 gig. Is that normal? I
thought that Windows Backup for Vista only added new or changed files to the
backups. It seems to me that the total backup shuld be less in size than the
C drive since the C drive also has the OS (Vista Home Premium) and my
programs.
What do I do when my external drive runs out of room? Perhaps I should
start deleting old backup sets.

Thanks for shedding some light

Harmon
