Two vista home premium computers, desktop and laptop, are connected to a
private network(Netgear router). Both can use internet through router and dsl modem. The two computers cannot communicate with each other. Each shows up on the other's full map, but not in the list of computers and devices. Network discovery, file sharing, public file sharing, printer sharing, media sharing are on, password protected sharing is off. Also Desktop prints to wireless printer, laptop can not. Laptop has drivers installed from disk, not over network from desktop since they do not communicate. Please help me if you can. |

Hey there RSG,
Just out of curiousity, is the Windows Firewall enabled? And if so, make sure that in the exceptions that File and Printer Sharing and Network Discovery are checked. Reboot and let me know what happens. Best Regards, Will "RSG" wrote: Two vista home premium computers, desktop and laptop, are connected to a private network(Netgear router). Will,
Windows firewall is off on both computers. Both have Norton on. "William Anderson" wrote: Hey there RSG, Just out of curiousity, is the Windows Firewall enabled? Norton is your problem!
You'll have to delve into it, so that it allows file sharing and LAN. As for anything else, have a read below. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../bb727037.aspx Have a read of the above link re Vista File and Printer Sharing. Permissions/Share info is there as well. If using Norton, McAfee, Trend Micro I.S., make sure file and printer sharing is enabled in THEIR firewall .(LAN allowed) 1st thing to do is make sure that the Workgroup Name of ALL the computers is the SAME. In Vista Network and Sharing: Network Discovery: ON (So it can see the other computers) Network set to Private (Public is for hotspots, airports, etc) File Sharing: ON Public Folder Sharing: ON (Vista’s Public Folder is the same as XP’s Shared Docs) Password Protected: OFF (unless you want to set up identical usernames, and passwords (they can be different) on ALL computers in your Network). If you have it ON, you will be asked for a username and password when you try to access a Vista computer from an XP computer, or a Vista Computer. -- Mick Murphy - Qld - Australia "RSG" wrote: Will, Windows firewall is off on both computers. Mick,
Thanks for the response. I turned Norton off and I got the two computers to recognize each other. I now have to figure out how to configure Norton. Thanks again, at last I feel I am making progress.
