Okay, here's what I found. I go to Pictures, scroll to Computer, click

Good grief vwayne...

Don't add the Pictures...just add the folder.
The article I posted for you explains it...
Go to...File / Add Folder To Gallery...browse
to and select the folder.

Here's a clue...the Pictures (none of them)
are actually *in* the Photo Gallery...it simply
archives links to the actual location of the
Pictures.

You're a real piece of work.

Yeah right, you are so knowledgeable you think you cannot "get to" your
machine while a backup is taking place.

I stand by my suggestion.

Thanks, Bob, so much for your concern, suggestion. I'm new to Vista

64,
but not new to computers. Just finished building this one. Am quite

sure
I can figure out my problems. Thought I'd save time by going to a

forum.

Good grief is right...

At first I tried adding all of the internal F drive; its where my
photos are stored. That's when I got a window saying ---Adding a root
folder can cause your computer to run slowly.--- I cancelled and tried
moving folders one at a time.

The jpegs added all right. But most of my folders wouldn't. Then I
realized that they were my Raw files, (unmarked in the Add Folders
window as such). In XP they show up in My Picutres, at least the folders
do, although they can't be opened without Photoshop., of course.

I've since found an update for Photo Gallery that claims it allows you
to work in Raw, which is something I'd never do, but at least it would
be nice to see the files in Photo Gallery for quick refernce.

You still refer to "moving" the pictures
which is not what you need to do.
PhotoGallery simply links to the current
location.

As for the RAW files (now you tell us)...
Photo Gallery does not natively support
RAW files. The supported formats a
BMP, JPEG, JFIF, TIFF, PNG, WDP

My problem is almost the exact reverse. I linked to files on my removable F drive. After realizing that deleting from photo gallery actually deleted the file, I decided I didn't want to do anything with the photos on F. Disconnecting the drive, I now have a gallery full of photos that 'don't belong' yet I can't remove them from PG as the link no longer exists. Seems PG should detect broken links and either discard them or offer the option of discarding them.

=====================
Try renaming or deleting the Photo Gallery database:

This database named "Pictures.pd4" is found at the
following location.

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\
Windows Photo Gallery\Pictures.pd4

The file can also be found with an Advanced
Search for pd4.

Go to...Start / Search / Advanced Search.

Check the box..."Include non-indexed, hidden,
and system files" Enter pd4 in the Name field
and left click the Search button.

If you rename it to Pictures.old...the next time
you open Photo Gallery a new .pd4 file will be
created and it should be as it was the first time
you opened it.

If you right click on the folder you had for the removable drive you should
see 'remove from the gallery' (this does not show on the standard locations
such as 'pictures'). Selecting this option will remove that folder for the
data base, does not delete the pictures. (just to be safe I would do this
operation with the drive disconnected, paranoia in action)
