Default Error 80245003

Hello-
I am testing Vista RC1 on a new machine I set up to test it on and am having
no luck in using any sort of windows update functionality. I click to get
updates and it checks for a minute or two then pops up that Windows could not
search for new updates with an error of 80245003. I followed help links to
set IE to auto detect settings on the LAN but that didnt work. In addition,
on my taskbar it is telling me that there are windows updates avaliable, but
when I click the icon it pops up Windows update again and it just says the
same error again. Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

It appears this is due to Microsoft having turned-off update functionality,
lest we wind up with a version higher than 5728.
