Default Vista Unidentified network error

Hello,
I recently upgraded to Vista Ultimate SP1. I am not getting a unidentified
network error. This was from a clean install, so no norton etc blocking. I
also disabled windows firewall. I am connected to a Linksys N Ultra router
(wired). I have tried the general info people have posted on other forums and
am having 0 luck. I even set up a static IP and I still cant see anything on
the network. Any idea what is going on? I heard there may be a problem with
the chipset drivers SP1 loaded, but wanted to check with others before I go
back to XP.

did you use regedit to remove IPv6 and make other changes?

It sure looks like you did.

The fact that you have tried unspecified things you found on
unspecified forums indicates your system is in an unstable state at
best. can you go back to a system restore point to before you
started making changes?

I did a format and reinstalled vista from scratch (disabled the IPv6) and
still get the same thing. The one thing I did not do was disable IPv6 from
the reg. I'm also going to buy a new NIC today and try that instead of the
onboard. If you have any other suggestions, please let me know..this is
driving me crazy.

If you use DHCP, does the DHCP assign IP to the Vista? Or post back with the
result of ipconfig /all.

You didn't have comodo firewall pro installed by any chance.

I had a similar problem caused by the 3rd party firewall.

The information in your ipconfig /all shows that you computer is not
accessing the DHCP server in your router.

The 169.xxx.x.x is microsoft default when no DHCP server is found

FYI the issue here lies in the fact that your network card be it
wireless or rj45 is in your ipconfig I see that your not showing a
default gateway which means that for some reason your network card is
not being recognised by your modem/router. You can try going into
configure in device properties and where it says network address the top
is blank and the bottom has a radio button which says not present select
the top box and enter the mac address of your card or enter a random set
of number 2 pairs like this (2S8G4UD6L31X7V) the random st of
number/letter assures you do not somehow have an identical number as
someone else in your DHCP server or routing table and this should cause
your modem/router to aknowlege that your NIC is there.
