So, start from the beginning again. http://networking.nitecruzr.net/2006/12/windows-xp-and-vista-on-lan-together.html http://networking.nitecruzr.net/2006...-together.html -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP 2005-2007 [Windows - Networking] http://networking.nitecruzr.net/ |

Thanks Chuck,
All three PCs are running Vista Have network set to Private, File shareing in firewall is set to allow, Permissions are set. Can't think of what I have missed. Everything appears to be the same for all machines/ Alan "Chuck [MVP]" wrote: On Fri, 25 Apr 2008 09:23:00 -0700, Radar069 wrote: I have had to reimstall Vista on a pc and now I cannot access it over tne network. In case you forgot something!
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../bb727037.aspx Have a read of the above link re Vista File and Printer Sharing. Permissions/Share info is there as well. If using Norton, McAfee, Trend Micro I.S., make sure file and printer sharing is enabled in THEIR firewall .(LAN allowed) 1st thing to do is make sure that the Workgroup Name of ALL the computers is the SAME. In Vista Network and Sharing: Network Discovery: ON (So it can see the other computers) Network set to Private (Public is for hotspots, airports, etc) File Sharing: ON Public Folder Sharing: ON (Vista’s Public Folder is the same as XP’s Shared Docs) Password Protected: OFF (unless you want to set up identical usernames, and passwords (they can be different) on ALL computers in your Network). If you have it ON, you will be asked for a username and password when you try to access a Vista computer from an XP computer, or a Vista Computer. Also, If you haven’t done so already, run XP’s Network Setup Wizard (in Start All Programs Accessories Communications), and tell the Wizard to enable File and Printer Sharing. Or Start Control Panel Network Connections Set up a Home or Small Office Network. -- Mick Murphy - Qld - Australia "Radar069" wrote: I have had to reimstall Vista on a pc and now I cannot access it over tne network. MICK,
Thanks for the help will read it again. Domt understand what you mean by "Also, If you haven’t done so already, run XP’s Network Setup Wizard (in Start All Programs Accessories Communications), and tell the Wizard to enable File and Printer Sharing. " As all machines are running VISTA not XP. Radar, I mentioned XP, as you did not say what operating systems the other
comps were using in your Network! I cover all bases! -- Mick Murphy - Qld - Australia "Radar069" wrote: MICK, Thanks for the help will read it again.
