Default Smart Card message on Vista RDC to W2K3

Remote Desktop (administrative purposes, not TS application mode) from HP
laptop with Vista Business SP1 to W2K3 SP1 or SP2 (happens on both SP levels
and on every server I RDC to). Immediately get error "The card supplied was
not recognized. Please check that the card is inserted correctly, and fits
tightly." I say ok, then am able to log on fine.

Please note:

I saw the KB 935576 -- http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935576
I do not have nor ever had a smart card. The servers are not Terminal Servers.
The smart card message just started happening this morning, while VPN'd into
office from home.
No new updates have been applied to any W2K3 server this week.
I installed Vista SP1 over this past weekend (Sunday 4/27) and applied
updates to Vista Monday 4/28 in morning. The message did not happen 4/28 at
night when VPN'd in from home. It did not happen yesterday (4/29) when I was
in office RDC'd into servers.

Googling turns up one other person with same issue, and he too does not have
smart card. Reply was issue probably caused by referencing non-complaint
Vista card on server and there's an optional patch (did not specify what the
patch was) from MS Update. We don't have smart cards on the servers, but
anyway I could not find referenced patch on MS update.

Anyone gotten this or know resolution?

Thanks,
jremmc

Default Smart Card message on Vista RDC to W2K3

Resolved -- On boot up this morning, Vista thought I had a smart card
inserted - event id 610 apeared in System Log 3 times:

Smart Card Reader 'RICOH Company, Ltd. RICOH SmartCard Reader 0' rejected
IOCTL POWER: The smart card is not responding to a reset.

Stop/Start Smart Card Service did not do anything. I had to do a reboot (to
be safe, I did a shutdown/turn onn cold restart). Message did not reoccur
when RDC'ing after restart.

Well, the whole experience was annoying to say the least.
