Default Vista IP won't stay static

downloaded 2 "important" updates to my vista system. now, can't keep my
ip address static (TCP/IP v4). keeps returning to dynamic. restarted
and did lots of 'diagnostics'. no luck. any suggestions?

here is what a friend suggested. it seems to have worked...

Please backup your registry before playing in there.

To resolve this issue, disable the DHCP BROADCAST flag in Windows
Vista. To
do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start button, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then
click regedit in the Programs list.

User Account Control permission If you are prompted for an
administrator
password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.

2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Tcpip\Parameters\Interf
aces\{GUID}
In this registry path, click the (GUID) subkey that corresponds to the
network adapter that is connected to the network.

3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit)
Value.

4. In the New Value #1 box, type DhcpConnEnableBcastFlagToggle, and
then
press ENTER.

5. Right-click DhcpConnEnableBcastFlagToggle, and then click Modify.

6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.

7. Close Registry Editor.

Default Vista IP won't stay static

This really is ridiculous , i havent had my router connected for a good week
or so as i had to reinstall/reset to factory settings to get good ole vista
running smoother again, everythings working fine, reset my router back up,
and as soon as I have to do port forwarding on it, for some odd reason it
doesnt work .. everything set up right , exactly the wayt I had it working
before .. then i realise it just keeps resetting my ip to 0.0.0.0 ....
does anyone know if MS are actually working their butts off to fix this
stuff up ? Im tempted to restore the pc yet again (and just ignore as many of
their "important" updates as I can) as all the searching I have done online
hasnt enabled me to work around this, my net still works fine but the port
forwarding doesnt, and not being up to date tech savvy, Im not sure but I
assume this is caused by this problem .... ??
load up WoW and its running fine, in network settings my ip says 168.1.1.10
, then when it dc's me from game, i recheck network settings and it says
0.0.0.0 , hence why I assume this is the issue ...

I had a look at your post but when i get to this part
"""
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Tcpip\Parameters\Interf
aces\{GUID}
In this registry path, click the (GUID) subkey that corresponds to the
network adapter that is connected to the network.

- 1 I dont know what u mean by {guid} ? and
- 2 I cant tell by looking what corresponds to my network adapter so unsure
if im somehow in the wrong place

Followed your path to interfaces perfectly .. but then I only have the one
folder, just cant see network adapter in there ,
help would be great ..

thanks
