My son's girlfriend just won a toshiba laptop from the high school attends as
a reward for good grades. This is great because she could've never afforded
one otherwise.

Anyway, it has a wireless card and we can get on the internet at our home
and church and other places but not automatically. We have to go to start
and then 'connect to'. How can we change the settings so she can just click
on the internet icon and be online?

Go to the Manage wireless networks under Network and Sharing Center. Then
Properties of the wireless. Under Connection, make sure Connect
automatically when this network is in range.
