Default I have the 169.254.x.x ip problem

Hi,

I have a HP Slimline. I bought it on January. Since a few weeks ago it
changed my IP to a 169.254.x.x type. I have tried 'this'
(http://www.chicagotech.net/netforums...8d8f33 ff88c7)
and 'this' (http://slees.net/2006/09/25/ip-169254xx/); I restore the
system to a date before the problem began, deleted/changed registry keys
but none of this seemed to fix anything. As my last resource, I decided
to format my computer (that was yesterday). After some problems trying
to reinstall vista, it worked. When I did ipconfig to see if the problem
was solved... guess what? The 169.254.x.x ip was there!!! Even
after I formatted it.

I though that maybe some problems with the "tunnel adapters", I didn't
know what were they, but now I know what they are and I don't think that
could be the source of the problem.

The thing is, I can do everything perfectly, I can use the internet,
run my applications with no problems but I can't play online games .

Anyone with a solution?

Hi, I had a similar problem, PC could not get an IP address from DHCP
Server(Router/Modem, that was caused by Commodo Firewall upgrade.
It worked ok before upgrade and not after.
When I unstalled the firewall the problem went away.

Hi
The IP that you get means that the computer can not obtain a valid IP from
whatever it is connected to.
Sorry that I can not help more because you did not provide any tech. info
about the setup of your Network.
