I try very hard to use Vista on one of my desktops.
A recurring annoyance is that Vista intermittently is unable to connect to a laser printer connected to an XP machine. It sees the printer but cannot print. It takes multiple uninstalls, reinstalls, then the connection is stable for a while but inevitably is lost. The Vista machine dual boots to XP and guess what? Although the Vista side will not connect to the printer the XP side connects. Hence the problem is in Vista, which is unable to maintain stable networking, and not in the XP machine connected to the printer. Vista, the Office Ribbon of Abomination: what hath Microsoft wrought? |

I'll be facetious here, so we can see the challenges: 1) You have a Windows Vista printer client. 2) You have a Windows XP printer server. 3) You have a printer, with drivers. None of these issues are gratuitously stated. Did you start by making sure that you have the most current drivers (for both operating systems) on both computers? That's crucial. http://networking.nitecruzr.net/2006/12/windows-xp-and-vista-on-lan-together.html#Printers http://networking.nitecruzr.net/2006....html#Printers -- Cheers, Chuck, MS-MVP 2005-2007 [Windows - Networking] http://networking.nitecruzr.net/ |
