compatibility files problem
I do a lot of modding of programs and games and everytime I create or save things in vista x64 sp1 it never goes into the folder I tell it to instead theirs this "compatibility files" thing in the top on the explorer bar where thing are put. I then have to cut and paste them out of there to make anything work. Is there a way to turn this feature off? It's driving me nuts! -- -= Cross =- |

compatibility files problem

This is the File Virtualization in action. This virtualization is intended to prevent unauthorized access to the Program Files folder, which was always a target for malicious programs. File Virtualization is a component of Uaser Account Control. If you turn UAC off, FV will be disabled. The problem is that this may result in Access Denied errors, when you try to write to or save files to those folder under program Files. If you have specific folders that you need to access, you will need to change the Permissions on those folders to give your account access to them. This is usually the result of programs that are not compatible with Vista. Tthere is a document that explains how all of this works and how an application can easily be configured to work without any virtualization being involved. You can download this document at the following location.
