this is what I did. #1) control panelprinteradd a printer localuse existing portpich your Deskjet 9800 driver in HP-it's there. #2) install #3) once it's installed, right clic itpropertiesportsadd port #4) add portname it #5) i used this format \\computer\printer where the computer is the name of the remote that has the printer attached;and printer is the name of the printer in the XP pc.
