the vista system is running avg but i have also tried disabling it for this. i have shared several folders as 'everyone (all users)' and i didn't receive any errors. My workgroup settings seem correct and i can see other pcs running other OS's such as 2k and XP. I can read off their shares and even delete files as i see fit. On these systems however, i can see the vista pc in the workgroup but as soon as i attempt to open it i receive a network path not found error. i have tried disabling and re-enabling the adapter, as well as messing with share permissions etc and nothing works. i would have thought i would at least be able to access the pc in the workgroup even if there are no accessible shares leading me to think it is not a permissions error. by the way these systems in question are on a wired network through a router. a quick test has revealed that the vista pc can ping the 2k pc with a response but not vice versa. the vista pc is an nforce4 chipset onboard LAN using the drivers that came with vista rtm. ipv4 connectivity is listed as 'internet' and ipv6 is listed as 'limited'. i've provided as much info as i can if there's anything else i can post then i will. thanks in advance -- total_ass ------------------------------------------------------------------------ total_ass's Profile: http://vista64.net/forums/member.php?userid=854 View this thread: http://vista64.net/forums/showthread.php?t=27444 |

the windows vista firewall doesn't work when i attempt to start it i receive an error saying that it cannot be started. im running windows defender as well if that matters at all. when you say the sharing wizard do you mean the network and sharing centre? everything except 'printer sharing' and 'password protected sharing' are enabled there. if i select 'show me all the files and folders i am sharing' then there are no results, if i select 'show me all the shared network folders on this computer' then i see the folders i am attempting to share. thanks for your replies. -- total_ass ------------------------------------------------------------------------ total_ass's Profile: http://vista64.net/forums/member.php?userid=854 View this thread: http://vista64.net/forums/showthread.php?t=27444 |

In Explorer goto toolsfolder optionsView and scroll to the bottom and
disable sharing wizard. Make sure your shares are user specific with full priveldges. Are you using any other programs that use firewall? You have a peculiar issue. -B "total_ass" wrote in message ... the windows vista firewall doesn't work when i attempt to start it i receive an error saying that it cannot be started. im running windows defender as well if that matters at all. when you say the sharing wizard do you mean the network and sharing centre? everything except 'printer sharing' and 'password protected sharing' are enabled there. if i select 'show me all the files and folders i am sharing' then there are no results, if i select 'show me all the shared network folders on this computer' then i see the folders i am attempting to share. thanks for your replies. -- total_ass ------------------------------------------------------------------------ total_ass's Profile: http://vista64.net/forums/member.php?userid=854 View this thread: http://vista64.net/forums/showthread.php?t=27444 |
