My PC has recently developed issues with executing a complete PC backup (my preferred method of backup). It is reporting a Error 0x80070002 Cannot find file, however does not specify the missing file. Having searched several forums I have not been able to find an effective solution and have tried the following recomendations: - Verifying registry keys for UserProfile paths - These all appear to be valid; - Running scan disk - No errors detected; - Running the system file check - Again no errors found; - Restoring to a restor point - unfortunately this issue is present on all the restore points I have. One interesting point, however is that I can sucessfully perform a file backup (including through onecare), so I am guessing that something is amiss in the supporting configuration / files for the complete backup process only. I guess that this would make sense as the process performs backups on a block by block basis and so missing system files (not used by the backup process) should be irrelevant. Needless to say, the issue is driving me nuts and I very much dislike being exposed to system failure (files excepted). Any ideas on the following would be greatly appreciated: - Complete resolution of the issue?; - Process for increasing logging on backup such that I can determine which files are missing. For error codes, going to Microsoft.com and entering the code is usually
productive: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951002 "andybanks" wrote in message ... My PC has recently developed issues with executing a complete PC backup (my preferred method of backup). Mark, Thank you for the suggestion; I had found this arcticle; however it applies only to restoring a backup and not creating one. I have searched for similar files to be missing that could prevent a backup being made, but have had no joy. Andy -- andybanks |

Save yourself a lot of time and worry and purchase a copy of Acronis True
Image 11 Home. You won't regret it. You can purchase it at NewEgg.com for about $36, including shipping. It will do everything Complete PC Backup is supposed to do, and much more. (My own results with Complete PC Backup have varied. It worked about 20 percent of the time.) http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing...cts/trueimage/ A free trial version is available for download. ------------------------------ Donny Broome www.broomeman.com/vista Free Spyware Removal: www.broomeman.com/spyware "andybanks" wrote in message ... I am assuming by Complete PC Backup, you mean you are checking the little
box to prevent an incremental backup. If not, you are performing an incremental backup and there may be files missing (corrupt structure) preventing success. "andybanks" wrote in message ... Mark, I am not checking the box to prevent an incremental backup, so indeed I would be missing the previous files. Where is this box? It is strange that I have missed it and will take a look this evening. If this fixes it I will be both delighted and a little anoyed with myself (have worked in IT for 7 years). Thanks for your suggestion, hopefully my next post will be to say that I have fixed the issue ![]() Andy -- andybanks |

Donny, there are a lot of people (me included) who may differ with you on your opinion of Acronis. An outright reccomendation may not be appropriate. I bought Acronis based on posts such as yours, and it turned out to be an expensive mistake. Visit the Acronis site, and follow the links to the support forum and you will find that MANY people are having the same problems with Acronis on Vista that I am having, which is to say that for many people it JUST WON'T WORK on Vista. If the level of traffic on a support forum is any indication, then I would submit that Acronis is not the be-all and end-all in the world of backup. Add to that the fact that tech support from Acronis is famous for it's ability to be invisible. Please note Donny, I am talking about my experience only, and what I have seen and read on the Acronis forum. I have no Bachelors degree in the Computer Sciences, but I have been computing since Win 3.1 and I personally would not recommend Acronis as being the perfect app. -- Dave T. Things to note: The "checkbox" is not available if you elect to manually create a backup. This backup will always be incremental unless it is the first one on the drive. Using the scheduled backup is the only way to get the checkbox to create full backups, each and every time you want one. "andybanks" wrote in message ... I have fixed it ![]() OK, so..... not only had I noticed that file and shadow backups stopped working, but I also when looking through event veiwer found periodic Istor errors pertaining to lack of availability, I also started to get issues flagged up with one of my RAID0 disks which when checked for errors could not find anything. Anyway, I searched for Istor errors, vista etc. and found the following site: 'The Flying Nerd Intel RAID problem under Windows Vista' (http://www.flyingnerd.com/intel-raid...-windows-vista) This was via Intel and recomended disabling the power save features of the drive in the registry. I did this and BINGO, no more drive errors and also have been able to perform a full backup, create shadow restore points and the system now flies. So I guess the file not found related to lack of disk access when the connectivity was periodically lost due to the istor error. Anyway, I am pleased as punch to have fixed this and hopefully this can help others as I have not found these two errors linked in any other forums. Needless to say, I will be buying a 3rd disk and migrating to a RAID 5 configuration going forward. Andy -- andybanks |

Hi, I had similar problem. Had been doing backup to external drive for some time then in March i started getting same message. I found various forum messages that it was to do with Registry Profile (whatever that is). I then realised that around this time I had downloaded REGISTRY MECHANIC. Like you I used it to do scans it said all was OK. I then went to the Restore Registry Backup and it had backup in March so I restored this and it all started working again. Hope some of this might help you Trevor -- Mantra |
