Default Houdini 9.1 help displays blazingly fast: Thanks! and a smiley

On 2007/12/31 I posted a suggestion that Houdini 9 help performance be
addressed by either Microsoft or the Houdini team, and Thanks Folks, this
issue is history. Houdini 9.1 help is now quite fast.

If you've been suffering slow Houdini help on Vista, the current Houdini 9.1
release build is 9.1.244, and the performance fix went into H9.1 a few builds
back, but I only recently noticed because I only use the released builds and
244 is fairly recent.

The fix had more to do with the addition of IPV6 into Vista; if I understand
it right, the Houdini folks sped up the help performance hugely by just
tweaking a network setting to do something along the lines of quickly not
trying to use the new IPV6 network protocol.

For the simple-minded end-user like me, the answer to this issue is: just
upgrade your Houdini to 244 or later.

Houdini 9.0 help displays slowly

Anyone can install For FREE the Apprentice version of Houdini from
http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?opti...9&Item id=221

All versions of Houdini 9 (paid or free) use the local web server to display
the Houdini help files content.

Boy is it ever slow on released x64 Vista!! I worked once with Houdini 9 on
a Linux box, and wow, the help displays right quick. So, it can be done...

Maybe it's due to code in Houdini 9.0, or maybe it's another manifestation
of the notorious slow Vista file copying problem.

I have reported this to the good folks at Houdini, and now I have reported
it here. It's already fast on Linux; things that make you go hmmmm...

Here's hoping that when Vista SP1 ships and a later build of Houdini 9 is
out, that either Side Effects Houdini code or Vista code (or both) has amped
up the speed of Houdini 9 help on Vista.

Thanks folks!
