Default Home Network Not Working

I have been using a home network for some time but now my laptop is unable to
access one of my desktops. I keep getting a message that reads: " \\BLUEBOSS
is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network
resource. .......... The specified network provider name is invalid"

This problem just started a few days ago. No changes had been made to the
computers and so I am quite unsure how this issue has come about.

Thanks in anticipation.

It could be firewall or permission issue. What's the system error if using
this command: net view \\blusebossipaddress?

Hi thanks for taking the time to assist.

The answer to the question is that the error message is location can not be
found. I am quite certain that the firewall is not the issue as I can see
files on the laptop from other computers even those still running XP but the
laptop can't access them. They appear in the network explorer but access is
denied.

If you can see them but access, you may want to create the same username and
password on the both computers. Or this search result may help.
Vista Permission Issues
Can I assume the external drive used to be connecting to other
computer and you just re-connect it the the Vista? Check the permission
using this command: . ...
