Default programs open in wmp? help!

i messed something up last night. i accidentally changed something to
make my program files open in windows media player. when i double click
on a program from my desktop, windows media player comes up and gives me
the "windows cannot play this file" message. how do i fix this? if i try
to open anything, such as Firefox or paint, it tries to open in WMP.

any help is greatly appreciated.

Read up on "file associations" and/or "system restore".
