Do the connection problems only affect Internet Explorer or do they affect all applications (e.g., your Mail Client; Windows Update; instant messengers; WMP)? -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ CSTM wrote: I have had problems connecting to the internet since I purchased this laptop. This Dell is a little over a year old and runs Vista. I can't connect to the internet via a hardwire at the office. I used to be able to. I can connect wirelessly at home. This used to be a problem. Forgive my ignorance. I don't know how to answer that question. All I know
is that there are many times when the computer is telling me I have a local connection only but I am not connected to the internet. I don't use IM. ...I try to do automatic repairs but
that doesn't seem to work anymore. Explain what you mean by "automatic repairs," please? ...I can't connect to the internet via a hardwire at the office... I can connect wirelessly at home. Can you connect via hardwire at home, too? Are you allowed to connect to the internet at the office? Are you posting to this newsgroup from your home? Are you able to check for Windows Updates manually at the office? ...at home? See this tutorial: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...torial140.html -- ~PA Bear CSTM wrote: Forgive my ignorance. "automatic repairs"
When I am having trouble connecting to the internet I will go to Network and Sharing Center. I usually find a red x on the green line between the local connection icon and the icon of the globe. I click the red x and it searchs for a solution, I click one of the suggestions sometimes solving the problem but not usually. "Can you connect via hardwire at home, too?" I have not tried to connect at home via a hardwire. I can connect at home wirelessly although there have been times when I could not. Until recently, I was able to connect at the office via wire. "Are you posting to this newsgroup from your home?" Posting wirelessly at home. "Are you able to check for Windows Updates manually" I can at home-how do I do that if you suggest I should? "See this tutorial:" I not quite sure what I should do here. Thanks, Bob "PA Bear [MS MVP]" wrote: ...I try to do automatic repairs but that doesn't seem to work anymore. "Can you connect via hardwire at home, too?"
I have not tried to connect at home via a hardwire. Try it. Check for Windows Updates at the office exactly as you do it when you're at home. Read the tutorial I cited in my previous reply for instructions. CSTM wrote: "automatic repairs" When I am having trouble connecting to the internet I will go to Network and Sharing Center.
