Default Explorer doesn't show thumbnails on networked folder

I keep all my photos on a networked computer. On my Windows Vista Home
Premium computer, I can't get Explorer to display the thumbnails for any
picture. It only displays a generic image icon. If I open a folder on the
local hard drive, it shows the previews fine.

I've made sure that to uncheck "Always show icons, never thumbnails" in
Folder Options. I've applied the folder template "Pictures and Videos" to
the network folder.

My Windows XP computer seems to have no problem displaying image thumbnails.

How can I get Vista to display the image thumbnails on a network folder?

Try the direction in the tutorial
"http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/73715-thumbnails-windows-explorer.html?ltr=T".
That might work.

No, those instructions don't help. I can already see thumbnail previewss on
folders on the local computer. But thumbnail previews will not display on
network folders.

Am I the only person with this issue?

Simply use another file manager: XYplorer. Shows thumbs for all locations,
be it local, mapped, or remote.

Click Start, type Regedit.exe
Navigate to the following branch:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer
From the File menu, choose Export.
Save the branch to a REG file.

Also, export this branch:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Policies\Explorer

Post the contents of the two REG files here.

I don't have problems viewing thumbnails on my hard drive, my problem is when
using a CD in my cd/rom drive E. The pictures start to show then turn to the
generic icon. Any suggestions?

Default Explorer doesn't show thumbnails on networked folder

Iganpo -

I am also experiencing the exact same thing and it did used to work fine for
me as well. Clearly an update "fixed" this for us. I have noticed that in
some cases, if you preview each picture that the next time you visit the
directory, your thumbnails will appear, but this is clearly not a solution
and it is not consistent. I hope that someone can address this - Microsoft in
particular.

I have the same problem. Although it only affects me if i map the folder. If
I access it through a desktop shortcut it's fine. did anyone get a solution.

Try to explicitly use the remote user account & password when you create the
drive mapping.
e.g.: "remoteservername\yourusername"

It worked for me
