Default WinModems and 64-bit Vi$ta

Every time my Agere modem goes on or off hook,
the whole 64-bit Vi$ta chokes and coughs. No
choking under 32-bit XP.

Is this normal? Or is it a bad driver? But then
I am using the driver provided by and downloaded
from M$....

Don't tell me that M$ is backstabbing soft modems...

Or do I need a PCIe soft modem for 64-bit OS?
1x? 4x? 16x?

You do need Vista x64 software and drivers.

From the modem's Genius driver folder:

About this modem installation in Windows Vista x64 (64-bit edition).
There is the built-in modem driver in Windows Vista x64 for installing
this modem automatically,
therefore you do not need to install the extra modem driver in Windows
Vista x64.
