What Anti Virus?
These are my observations/recommendations. They are based on third party
reviews & my own experiences. A good review compendium is: http://www.consumersearch.com/www/so...re/review.html Each package has its strengths and weaknesses- no package offers "perfect" protection. Eset NOD 32 Antivirus: Excellent protection against a variety of threats, low foot print. Generally stable under Vista. Recent signature update caused serious stability issues on some machines. However, Eset quickly addressed the issue. Recommended. Bitdefender Antivirus 2008: Very good protection against a variety of threats; Excellent performance (real time protection & scanning). Low pricing. Stable under Vista- however may have Vista incompatibilities- one of which I experienced. Poor response time from technical support. Uninstall may require use of a free, easy to use Bitdefender utility. Not recommended for Vista due to possible incompatibility. Kaspersky 7 Antivirus: Excellent protection against a variety of threats, low foot print. My have stability issues, including potential for corruption/operating system instability. This may be true of other packages, but I directly experienced this with K7. Vista compatible- however I personally will not use it because of issues I encountered. Avast 4.8 Home edition (freeware). Good protection. Easy to install. Vista compatible. Was only on my system for a brief period. I concluded, by reading independent reviews, that its protection may not be as strong as other non-freeware software packages. "Denise" wrote in message ... Hi, can someone please advise of a good free anti virus program that runs well with Vista Home Premium. I downloaded the bought version 8.0 and began having problems with the computer lagging, and generally slow all over, not thinking it was AVG, I checked every other possible issue that I thought may be causing it. Eventually it lead to AVG, as things had been good prior to installation. I completely removed AVG and everything returned to normal, great! But then I done a further download of the program again, and once again the problems began. Is there a good alternative Anti Virus program that is recommended ? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards Denise |

Apparently the paid version of AVG8 does have an SP1 incompatibility This is the kind of things you have with Windows. that is being fixed. If you contact their support you may be able to get a pre-release version HTH -pk |

What Anti Virus?
Hi,
just wanted to say a big THANKYOU to all that take the time to read and answer the questions that are posted by people like me, who have come to the end of their tether with problems that are driving us to distraction. I now have a great Anti Virus installed that runs beautifully with Vista Home Premium and removed Webroot and replaced it with a more user friendly Spyware. My computer has been restored to harmony!! Runs so much faster too. Thank you, for without all the recommendations and advice I received, I would no doubt have been sectioned under the mental act, as I was so nearly on the verge!! Thanks again Kindest regards Denise x Denise" wrote in message ... Hi, can someone please advise of a good free anti virus program that runs well with Vista Home Premium.
