I just upgraded both of my computers to Vista Ultimate. One 32 bit and one 64
bit. Both are using NOD32 a/v software. Both are using Comodo Pro Firewall (free version). Both boxes have a working internet connection through my Netgear FVG318 Router with the latest firmware. Both boxes have Network Discovery, File Sharing, Public Folder Sharing, Printer Sharing, Password Protected Sharing in the ON position. Turning off NOD 32 and Comodo does not change anything. The 32 bit box can see and ping itself, the router and the network printer but cannot see the 64 bit box. The 64 bit box can see itself, but cannot see or ping the router, printer, or the 32 bit box. I cannot even log into the router with the 64 bit box. I am trying to use the network printer and want to share files between the two boxes. I am at a loss at how to proceed. Can anyone offer some advice? |

We will fix the ping issue first. For troubleshooting, start both computers
with clean boot. Can you ping each other now? If you are going to do passworrd protected sharing, read below about same
user accounts and Passwords Install the router's software as well, or what IP address are you using to try and log int it??? Printer Sharing in Network and Sharing is for other users in the same computer, not network Printer. Read this article at the link below before you do another thing! http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../bb727037.aspx Have a read of the above link re Vista File and Printer Sharing. Permissions/Share info is there as well. If using Norton, McAfee, Trend Micro I.S. etc, make sure file and printer sharing is enabled in THEIR firewall (or LAN allowed, depending on how their Exceptions are worded in their Firewall) 1st thing to do is make sure that the Workgroup Name of ALL the computers is the SAME. In Vista Network and Sharing: Network Discovery: ON (So it can see the other computers) Network set to Private (Public is for hotspots, airports, etc) File Sharing: ON Public Folder Sharing: ON (Vista’s Public Folder is the same as XP’s Shared Docs) Password Protected: OFF (unless you want to set up identical usernames and passwords (passwords can be different) on ALL computers in your Network) If you have it ON, you will be asked for a username and password when you try to access a Vista computer from an XP computer, or a Vista computer. -- Mick Murphy - Qld - Australia "1361" wrote: I just upgraded both of my computers to Vista Ultimate. Well, I figured the problem out. I have a fiber connection. We have phone,
internet and tv. I had the 64 bit box hooked up to the TV's cat 5 outlet in the wall. I wasn't even going though the router. The funny thing was I still had internet through the connection. What brought me to this answer was ipconfig. I couldn't figure out why it didn't show a private address for this box. Once again, operator error. ![]() Thanks for the help "1361" wrote: I just upgraded both of my computers to Vista Ultimate. One 32 bit and one 64 bit. Both are using NOD32 a/v software.
