Default Error message DII

i have downloaded a programme on a computer with xp and it works fine. i
have tried to download the same programme on my laptop which has vista
installed and I get the following error message when I try to open it.
"C:\windows\system32\SYMEVENT.SYS. An installable Virtual Device Driver
failed DII initialization". Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Symevent.sys belongs to a Norton product. Are you trying to install an older
version of one of the (rather dreadful anyway) Norton security products? If
you really feel you must use Norton (not recommended), then you will need
to purchase a version that works on Vista. Or contact Symantec for help
with their bloatware.
